Social Media Marketing

I was reading in the news today that Facebook has become literally addicting for many people, young and old, that it's starting to interfere with daily functioning. There is now counseling and support groups to help those with specific addictions to Facebook. How have we gotten to this point?

By social media, I mean things like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Youtube, blogs, and Wikipedia. Any country or level of government is okay. I'm doing a presentation and need some examples. Thanks.

I logged in Facebook in an airport in Taiwan and there were Chinese characters on the web page. When I got back to the Philippines, my Facebook still has the Chinese characters. How can I revert to my original, all-English Facebook page? Please help me! Thanks.
