Police in South Carolina say they have received five calls to animal control involving a dog bite victim in the past seven months.
An 11-month-old woman named Aja is recovering at a local hospital after becoming trapped and injured in a hit-and-run vehicle last week on State Road 596 in Spartanburg.
Animal control officers from the Spartanburg Humane Response Team responded to the call shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday.
An ambulance eventually arrived at the scene and took Aja to the hospital fonatyasastra.comr surgery. The dog's injuries included two puncture wounds to its neck and her foot was swollen to the point of pain.
"I think he did go a couple of steps away and got hit from behind," Spartanburg animal control officer David McKeague told The Spartanburg News.

The driver of the vehicle then ran from the scene, but the dog ended up running on its own toward the home. She wasn't harmed during the collision.
