How Do I Hide My Facebook Friends From Being Viewed By Non Friends?

I checked all the options available in facebook for friends only to see my friends, yet a test run with a neutral, non friend account displayed my friend list. Yet some people's profiles actually do not show their friends if you are not their friend.
