How Do I Completely Delete A Twitter Account?

About a month ago I made a "fake" twitter account, just to see what all of the hype was about. I decided I didn't want one, so I deleted it. Now, I want a twitter account, but something that actually reflects me. It won't let me use my email address because that's linked with my old account. Is there a way for me to permanently delete my old account?
