If user considers all the important factors before choosing a hosting plan then only he/she will be able to have a successful future in this world .User should not choose any of the plan, rather he/she should opt the best and most suitable one and this can only be made possible by fetching more and more informations and also by studying properly all the requirements. New comers should start from the basics .They should learn the meaning of each and every term used and also in addition those factors that can affect his/her selection.

Web Host

Web host refers to a computer connected to the internet. Web host can also be termed as ‘web server’. The computer that is playing the role of the web server needs to be more powerful than normal PCs and the function of this web server is to serve up websites.

The website content of the user will remain will on this computer, so as the people who are surfing on the internet can get a way to access his/her website.

There can be three main categories in which the web host can be classified based on the economic factor and common features:

1. Free Hosts:

The users who are not professional but are making website only as a hobby then for them free hosting can be a good option. In free hosting space, bandwidth and other features provided are very limited. With free web hosting one can not only make his/her website successful but is also suitable for personal websites or for temporary usage. Generally free hosting enforces pop-up, text or banner ads. Reliability, best performance and customer support lacks in case of free hosting as well. When a user registers for a free host then the word free host gets added with the user’s domain name that gives an adverse effect in the eye of the visitors.

2. Shared Hosts:

The next type of the web hosting to be discussed is shared hosting. This hosting service is used by many of the web sites .This type of hosting service is Suitable for personal, small and medium businesses. This service can be used by paying to per month. The features provided by this service vary from very limited space/bandwidth to semi-dedicated servers. The users host their website by this type of hosting service and it has its own top level domain facility. No doubt that shared web hosting is quite better than free hosting but still it does not provide 100% satisfactory services. In case of shared hosting one server is shared by the number of websites so its performance and availability gets affected. More websites usually means less performance. If less number of websites are hosted by one server then it will be more expensive, but in this case there are more chances of reliability. There are many companies allowing customers to host multiple websites with different domains under a single account.

3. Dedicated Hosts:

The next type of hosting is dedicated hosting. This type of hosting is most reliable hosting. In this type of hosting a full server is dedicated to a single customer. Generally this type of hosting is used by large businesses, professionals and very active websites dealing with thousands of visitors daily. The customers having dedicated hosting can have their total control over the server as well as able to create as many websites as they like. Customers can run their own hosting company on a rented dedicated server. Payment module is mentioned according to specifications and services provided with the server, which varies from 0 up to about 0 dollars per month.

4. Collocated Hosts:

Now the other type of hosting service to be discussed is collocated hosting. This service is very much similar to dedicated hosting. The difference between collocated hosting and dedicated hosting is that in collocated hosting the customer owns the server hardware instead of renting it. In this service the server will be placed in provider’s data center. This service is more expensive than dedicated hosting.

5. Reseller Hosts:

In reseller hosting the providers offers web server storage to their customers, and resells the web server storage to them. Generally providers offer resellers a discount price.

6. Other Hosts:

Including the above type of hosts there are also many other hosts such as email hosts, media hosts, data hosts, etc but these hosts will not be discussed in this article.

Domain Name

Domain name is the name which shows the place where one’s website is located. The actual address of the website is a set of numbers. Each and every web server has its own unique address. Domain name indicates the real addresses of every websites. One can easily remember the domain name of any of the website. Remembering domain name is easier than recalling the IP addresses.

Space / Storage

Space is one of the services provided by the web host. It plays a very important role in the website development. It happens many times that the customer requires more space but the host fails to provide it, so customer should be very careful while choosing the web host. Storage is the amount of web server’s disk space available for customer’s website files, images and databases. Space can be according to the requirement; it can be as small as 5MB in some free hosts and as big as 300GB for some dedicated servers. Earlier prices of the space were very high but prices reduced significantly during the last few years. The hosting plans offering 3GB of space for less than a month can be easily available.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth can be defined as the amount of data transferred from web server to clients’ internet browsers. When ever a person outlook a page the data is transmitted from the server to that person’ PC. If any one is having audio, video and images in his/her website then the bandwidth consumed is more in comparison of the website having only text contents. The bandwidth available in free hosting can be as low as 100MB per month where as in some dedicated servers the bandwidth available is as high as 2000GB a month. The customers who don’t want to pay more for bandwidth can easily find hosting plans offering 75GB of monthly data transfer for less than .

Server Type

Generally server means the operating system than runs the web server. Some common types are Windows, Linux and UNIX. Server type refers the server side scripting and database types. The difference between Windows server and Linux/UNIX is that Windows runs ASP and ASP.NET with Access or SQL Server databases where as Linux/UNIX servers usually runs CGI, PHP or JSP with MySQL or Oracle databases. The other difference is that Windows servers are more expensive than Linux/UNIX servers.

Databases

As server type is discussed earlier also, we are able to know that there are different types of databases available. The mostly used is MySQL as it is open source GPL (free) software and can serve a lot of online applications’ requirements such as forums, content management, mailing lists, etc. MySQL, rather its features are limited. MySQL is sufficient for small concern but it is not powerful for the complicated large business sites. Large business requires more powerful databases such as Oracle or SQL Server.

Server Side Scripting

Usually the new comers prefer to use PHP as server side scripting. The reason behind this is that there are hundreds of open source (GPL) PHP scripts that are able to fulfill the webmaster’s requirements. However PHP also has some limitations in features required by advanced websites same as in the case of MySQL, due to this limitation some professional web developers prefer to use ASP.NET or JSP. Some other developers still prefer to use Cold Fusion, CGI, ASP or PERL.

Now the next very important aspect to be talked about is Email. At present no one can move further in this computer world with having his/her Email account. The one who is planning to do any kind of activity through computer such as to run a business or to provide any kind of service, then the first thing he/she need to do is to open an Email account. There are many hosting plans that include the feature of having some email accounts with customer’s domain. The availability of number and size of email accounts totally depends on the hosting plan one opted. Generally this feature is not included in free hosting. Small plans provide only about 10 accounts where as big plans do not have the limited number. Usually those email accounts are web based and accessible through POP3 clients as well.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

The other service is FTP. File Transfer Protocol is a usual way of transferring files across the Internet. Most of the webmasters used to upload and download their websites contents through FTP. The process of uploading or downloading is performed by using FTP client software. Webmasters require FTP username and password so as to access their web server. There are any hosts who use to provide more than one FTP account to their customers as per their requirement. Rather FTP is unspecified; it is not advisable as per the security reasons.

Control Panel

Control panel is the service available by many of the web hosting companies to their customers. It is a web based application that helps in managing websites. Some important functions performed by the control panel are that it used to manage email accounts, providing statistics, managing FTP accounts, managing domains and sub-domains and managing databases. The control panel application that is mostly used by the user is cPanel. There are many companies who use to develop their own control panel application.

Uptime

Now after having all the services, the thing of concern which remains is how the user keeps his/her website uptime most of the time. If anyone is having a website with excellent features but it remains down most of the time it will be of no use, as when ever the visitors visit his/her website and found it down then later on they will think twice before visiting it. In result he/she will suffer the loss of visitors. Uptime is very important feature of web hosts and that is usually measured in percentage. If a server remains down near about 30 minutes a day will have an uptime percentage of about 99.98%, which is acceptable for most small to medium business websites. If any of the business website is not having at least this percentage of uptime then that website is not suitable for a business website. Mission critical sites cannot tolerate frequent outages, thus they may use web monitoring services to notify web administrators immediately when an outage happens.

Price

Finally the factor left is price. In this option also there is a great variability found like for example customer is having option to choose between the prices ranging from 0 to 00 per month. For most personal, small and medium websites the total amount of cost involved is just per month. Thus its not at all advisable for business website owners to select very cheap plans let say less than because this price can lead to huge cost indirectly afterwards.

This is a two-part article about creating a web site on the web and the tools that you need to do that.

During the last decade we have truly entered the information age. More and more people are becoming a part of the ever growing and wondrous community called the Internet. It was just over a decade ago that ‘Internet’ was just another new concept that a lot of people were skeptical about. Today however, it would be difficult to imagine living in the world without this amazing phenomenon. It really has enabled humans to reach new heights.

Some basic terminology that you should take a look at before proceeding further:

Web Page: A document that contains information created with the help of HTML.

Web Site: A collection of web pages on a particular subject.

HTML: Also known as Hyper Text Markup Language, this is used for the creation of web pages. Information is written in between HTML tags ( ) to instruct the web page as to how information will be displayed. You can also put images into the web page by using this language. Some other languages like JavaScript, VBscript, ASP, ASP.NET etc. are also used to display dynamic content on web pages and for performing user driver events.

There are basically two main categories of web sites:

Personal web site: These include websites that are about individual human beings/people.

Business web site: Includes web sites that advertise and inform users about the products and services that a company is selling.

This article will deal with creating personal web sites and putting them on the web.

You too can make your presence felt on the web (if you have not already done so) by creating a web site.

The demand and popularity of personal web sites have increased at a great rate since the start of the web. People have found web sites a great way to express themselves.

A personal web site is your message center where you can upload information about friends and family and share them with the rest of the world. They can even act as a personal Blog (on-line journal).

Having a personal web site on the Internet has a lot of advantages:

Gives you the freedom of self-expression. You can tell the world about your favorite hobbies, special interests, post your resume etc. for the whole world to see.
Ability to keep in touch share your life) with friend and family who are far away.
Great opportunity for making new friends and forming online communities.

Now comes the question of actually creating a web site. Surprisingly it is not a difficult task at all. In fact there are a lot of web sites that will provide you with all the tools you need to create your own web site and put it on the web, and you do not even have to know HTML to make them!

You do not even have to worry about buying up web space; almost all these sites will provide you with free hosting services. The only disadvantage is that they will probably put in banners (advertisements) of their sponsors on the site.

These are two of the most popular web sites where you can create your own web pages. Yahoo gives you multiple options for creating web pages. It has yahoo page wizard and yahoo page builder, which are two very powerful yet simple editors for creating pages and have a point and click interface.

http://maxpages.com/

www.expage.com/

These are some other sites where you can create your own web pages. You can also search on the Internet for more sites like these as well. All you need to do is register and then you can create your own web pages.

However, there is one little drawback when creating a site on these sites: you do not get your own personal domain name, so the address of your web site will be something like http://www.site_where_you_registered.com/yourname

Where ‘yourname’ is the name under which you registered.

However, taking everything into consideration, this is the simplest way to get on the web and start expressing yourself.

Due to Various inefficiencies of Old Web Hosting provider like poor technical support, down web server, inability of old provider to met with your requirements, expensive web hosting service, an Online Business owner decided to go for a new Web Hosting provider. Because of all above-mentioned and many more not in the list you would opt for new web hosting service. So the next step is to transfer your web site from current web host to new web host which can be done by following the under mentioned steps. Transferring of Schedule For transferring the old web hosting, planning should be done in advance, atleast one month before so as to ensure smooth transfer, as transferring in less than one month can led to inaccessibility of your web site.

Registering new web hosting service.

Once the above step is complete, user must go for a new web hosting service and must sign it accordingly within 24 hours so as to enable new account earliest.

Taking Files Backup.

As soon as you created a new web hosting account, you should take back up of all your web files for the new provider. Generally you already have all files of your web site on your local computer still it is beneficial to backup all your files from old web server. Further including HTML files, backup of any script file, database file and even of server logs file should be taken. Thereafter create a directory structure similar to directory structure on web server and then load the file in their respective directory.

Uploading of files

You will receive a notification email from your new web-hosting provider after the notification of your new web hosting account. Information needed to set up a website including FTP server information all will be provided within that email. With the help of that FTP information user can now FTP his new web-hosting server and can upload all his files. First the user should create a directory structure and then can upload all his files in their respective directories. User can also install any script file or databases if used in his website and also should setup his email accounts with the help of administration panel.

After finishing of uploading of all the files and installation of script files or databases temporary URL can be used to test the new site. This temporary URL can be obtained from through notification email from new web hosting provider.

Testing of new website

The new website can be tested online by using temporarily URL directory. As different web hosting server require different server environment to work, that’s why user needs to verify all the scripts like CGI, Perl if they are working as per the requirement or not. Further all the hyperlinks should be tested in the normal web pages so as to confirm that no broken links are there. Your website hosted on the old web hosting provider is continued to be operational, even when you are testing through the temporary URL directory. Transferring of domain name After finishing of testing new website on the temporary URL and verification of its perfect execution, next step is to contact the new domain name registrar so as to change the old domain name server to point the new DNS of the web hosting provider. There after the user will get DNS information through email after he finishes the successful registration with new web hosting provider and also would get the information from website of his new web hosting provider. The purpose of Domain name servers is to control how to resolve the domain name. Commonly the domain names are in following format:

NS1.THE-NEW-WEB-HOSTING.COM

NS2.THE-NEW-WEB-HOSTING.COM

Some domain name registrar requires the IP addresses of the DNS. In this case you have to provide the IP addresses of your new DNS. For example:

NS1: 216.193.194.212

NS2: 216.193.207.106

DNS record to change and propagate through all the WHOIS servers takes typically 24 to 72 hours. Whois tools such as whois.com can be use on Internet to monitor the status of DNS transfer. New DNS will be displayed once the transfer is complete. Even minor modifications are possible like the user can upload his own file or picture to the new web-hosting server. When the user checks his homepage through the normal domain name he can notice the new home page, which makes sure that transfer of DNS is successful. Final Testing Now, your website on the new web hosting provider is officially transferred and online. You should repeat all the tests to ensure it is fully functional.Thereafter you can go ahead to terminate your old web hosting account after the final confirmation is received.

There are more than 106,000,000 users on Twitter

The number of users grows by 300,000 or more each day and has been doing so for the past six months

On average about 1 out of every 350 visitors land on a website by way of Twitter

After realizing these astounding figures, I couldn’t believe the literal goldmine that we all have at our finger tips waiting anxious to be prospected.

I wanted to begin making money on Twitter, and most of all I wanted to start NOW!

But…

Twitter is a unique and sometimes confusing media that requires a unique approach to marketing.

Since the website is a social network, you simply can not go full on high pressure “used car salesman” with the selling, otherwise you’d be quickly reported for spamming and then banned without notice.

I soon realized that there are several hurdles that stop marketers like me and you from pulling profits from this website.

1st) It can be difficult to actually target people who would be interested in our products and services

Twitter doesn’t make it all that easy to find people who are interested in what we are offering. I found that I had to access several different websites in order to start building a list of targeted Twitter followers. This took an awful amount of time from my day to say the least.

And if you simply get on Twitter and start following random people, you’ll begin building a list of Twitter followers that aren’t interested in what you are offering. This is the digital equivalent of spinning your wheels in the gravel going nowhere fast.

2nd) You can only add so many users to your Twitter list per day.

This can be difficult if you want to scale up fast. Twitter has a cap on the amount of people you can add to your Twitter list per day. If you surpass this you risk being banned and losing everything that you’ve built.

3rd) If you’re marketing a local business, it can be nearly impossible to target people by location

This is the stark truth that comes along with marketing on Twitter. If I want to promote my real estate agency to a single city on Twitter it can literally take hours upon hours of digging through people’s profiles in order to find their locations. Twitter is the current top “hot property” on the Web, but its popularity and how to use it has mystified many business owners. Many people think that they want to, or should be using Twitter, but simply do not understand the platform, its use, or its place in building web exposure. This article will demystify Twitter and help you to learn how to use it in the workplace and to promote your business.

First, I have to say that I had been confused on how to use Twitter to benefit my own business until I downloaded TweetDeck. TweetDeck is a desktop application that allows you to review and post status updates on Twitter and Facebook simultaneously. I consider it a “must have” application for anyone who wants to make sense of Twitter. TweetDeck allows you to sort the people you follow on Twitter into groups, allows you to limit the number of Tweets (Twitter micro posts) to be shown at any one time, and also allows you to remove all Tweets you have seen with one click. Additionally, using TweetDeck, finally a Twitter search on a topic makes sense.

Since using TweetDeck, I have had a much better Twitter experience. As a Twitter newbie, visiting your own Twitter home page is intimidating; it consists of post after post from people who you are following, who you may not know much about, and it just seems like a huge volume of content. To get started effectively first group the people who actually have something interesting to say on TweetDeck and voila, you have a powerful tool that keeps you at the forefront of what is happening in your industry and on the Web.

So how do you get started with Twitter? Well the first thing is to start on Twitter yourself to understand what you like to read, who you like to follow, and to clearly identify what you like about Twitter. For me, it boils down to this: I like to follow people in my industry who say something of value, who provide a link to a new application or point me to an interesting new article, video, or blog site that I should review but may have never have found myself. Based on what I like, and the people who I find interesting to read, I now write my Twitter posts using this same formula to grow my own Twitter audience.

What I also like about Twitter is that the people who I follow also know how to show their true personality in their Tweets. Ye,s I do like to know what Danny Sullivan (famous search engine marketing guru) ate for lunch, but better yet is the link to the video he thought was funny. I love following Ashton Kutcher (movie star married to Demi Moore who just hit 1 million Twitter followers in April). Man, that guy is really funny and is having a ball with Twitter. His posts are great and he has just earned the status of the user with the most followers. This is why you can’t hire someone to “Ghost Twitter” for you. It’s about showing the real you – you can’t fake that!

So how can you use Twitter for business? Twitter is an excellent tool for linking and this is the real value for businesses. By using Twitter to point people to content on your website, articles you have written either on or off your website, or by linking to a service you want to highlight, you drive traffic. On top of that, Google actually indexes Twitter and so your Twitter page can appear in the organic search results so make sure your bio is well thought out. Don’t waste time using Twitter to point to blog posts, use TwitterFeed to post your blog posts directly onto Twitter. If you have a blog or website, you’ll get new Twitter followers by posting your TwitterFeed right onto your web pages. People who may not have known your Twitter ID can simply click the bottom “follow me link” and start following you on Twitter.

What’s important to be successful in using Twitter is to identify what you personally like about this new media and then deliver the same type of things that you like back to your own followers – work to provide value not drivel! So you’ve got to play with Twitter and learn how to use it first before you can really become successful with it for your business.

So how do you get followers? Well, I started by following everyone (who I found by doing a Twitter search) who had the last name McCord. Then I searched for web design, search engine optimization, and pay per click. Any site profile that looked good, I clicked to follow the writer. It was that easy. Many times people who you follow yourself will choose to follow you. That’s how you initially build up your Twitter base. Over time you will start to identify your “Twitter voice” and refine the type of Twitter presence you want to have by changing your content style and the things that you Tweet about. As you refine your presence, you will build a following.

Another cool Twitter use is that you can reply to any of your followers by simply putting an @ in front of their Twitter ID. For example to send something to my attention use @mccordweb at the very front of your Twitter posting and click enter. Just remember that this post is seen by all followers on my site and on your Twitter site. If you need a more private exchange, go to the direct message link on the Twitter.com site and select a follower by Twitter ID name and send your message from there. This note will be private. If you are using TweetDeck you can click on a follower’s Twitter ID icon and then select to send a direct message or @reply to them. TweetDeck will automatically insert the correct syntax for you in the Tweet.

For many businesses the ability for users to communicate with top management using Twitter is an invaluable resource. This one-to-one exchange allows a company principal to keep tabs on customer viewpoints, concerns, and interests. As a Twitter reply or direct mail does not use email and does not require a response, this is a great way to tap into social networking to test new ideas and to ask for user feedback. For example, if you have a new software product ask your Twitter followers for feedback on a specific feature, or provide a link to your beta version for their testing.

How you use Twitter is all about your personal business needs. The best advice that I can offer to you is that you need to use Twitter a bit yourself first to understand the medium and to find out what you like to read best using Twitter. Then, create your own Twitter network sharing information that you find interesting and have some fun.

Currently I am following 204 people and 183 people are following me on Twitter. Personally I find Twitter great fun and a very cool way to find out first what’s happening in the world before you see it on TV, read it on the Web, or see it in the newspaper. That’s the real power of Twitter; you share, you find out, and you know, all by a person-to-person exchange of information.

Below are some of the Twitter applications that I like and use regularly for my business.

Twuffer – I love this one, it is a Twitter post scheduler. Some people feel that Twuffer defeats the immediacy of Twitter posts or Tweets, but I like it as I will schedule Tweets on days that I am not blogging to keep my followers advised of things I find important. It is easy to use, allows you to Tweet ahead, and lets you select a posting schedule by day and time. If you are pushing content on a service or product this is an excellent tool to use. Set your Tweets up one week or one month at a time and feed your content to readers in addition to your regular Tweets. Make sure to use www.TinyUrl.com to change any long URLs you point to in the Tweet to a Twitter-friendly short version to save space.

Twitter Feed – This is another one of my top favorites. TwitterFeed allows me to show my blog posts from “The Web Authority” directly onto Twitter. It also allows me to post my Tweets back on my blog (by installing a widget) in my blog template – very cool cross interaction! I pick up many Twitter followers with this technique. Readers come to visit my blog and then choose to follow me on Twitter.

Twitter Grader – This one is a vanity application that allows you to see where you stack up against other Twitter users. Twitter Grader measures the power of a Twitter user based on followers, number of updates, and posting frequency.

TweetBeep – With this application, you can manage your online Twitter reputation. Alerts will be emailed to you whenever a Twitter user Tweets about your business, name, or domain. You select the alert criteria and what to watch for using TweetBeep. This is great for a business that is concerned about branding and online identity. PR professionals should make sure to use this tool to watch for comments about their clients.

Twitoria – Clean up your Twitter followers by finding out which people never use Twitter or post infrequently so you can delete them right from the Twitoria interface.

Qwitter – If you want to know when someone stops following you, sign up for this service. Actually, this can be an excellent tool to find out what a reader hated that you posted about and caused them to “chop” you, so you can fine tune your message. If you get a flood of drops after a Tweet, it allows you to learn that people don’t like a certain type of Tweet – instant feedback at an anonymous level!

One big thing about Twitter that I have not even mentioned yet but is actually one of Twitter’s best features is the ability to text-in Tweets from your mobile phone. Although you can’t easily link to great content typically on the fly like this, the ability to connect with others without being tethered to a computer is an opportunity to show the “real you”. Maybe your followers do want to know what you are eating for lunch or about a seminar you just attended, just be kind and don’t vomit out Twitter spam using your Blackberry on meaningless drivel.

You can easily set up the ability to receive text messages from your Twitter account to your cell or Blackberry, but be careful as you may be inundated if you have a large following. I would recommend receiving Twitter updates via text message to your cell only from a small group. For example if you have a project team, set up a Twitter account for each member to allow them to post just to this small unique circle of team members. The value to track and interact with each other at anytime and anywhere using Twitter by computer or by cell phone adds real value for work groups and teams – particularly team managers. Twitter even allows you to make this type of group private.

Another feature of Twitter is the ability to add hashtags in front of keywords in your Tweets to help with sorting to allow others to find your important content. For example if you wanted to Tweet about a recent earthquake in LA you would use #laearthquake in the front of your Tweet. By using hashtags you enable Twitter to return your information for topic searches on newsworthy Tweets. You can visit Hashtags.org for more information on the current hot hashtags that are in use for today so you can follow, add to the topic, or create your own. For example in Twitter World, Fridays are the day you post with #followfriday and enter in the Twitter IDs you want to recommend to others. You would be amazed at the cool new people you can follow and interact with from recommendations of the people you follow.

In conclusion, Twitter is one of the hottest new mediums to arrive on the Internet scene since Facebook. Although it is not exactly “new”, Twitter has just recently become very high profile. If you are in business, Twitter definitely warrants your attention. The key to trading penny stocks is learning how the game is played. The game has always been and will always be controlled by the MM’s (market makers) These are the people we used to trust to make a market for any stock even in the roughest times.

However times have changed especially in pennystocks, Very little regulations and oversight has turned these market makers into nothing more then market manipulators, manipulating any penny stock however they see fit for personal gaines.

Now most smart investors have learned you can’t beat them at their game. They have to much power and control. The best we can do is watch them and learn their patterns, Each MM has its own style of manipulating. and they will react in their own predictable way to different situations. Once you learn this you will truely have the advantage.
Trading penny stocks is much like playing a game of chess against these MM’s. If you know their techniques and strategys then you can easily predict where they will take a stock.

Watch them carefully on L2 , and watch charts at the same time you will see some MM’s react to certain indicators, some only react to buy and sell pressure. And some even work in teams and are truely there to take as much money as they can from you using all the dirtiest tactics including naked shorting, Paid message board bashers, and fake PR releases. (I.E. PUMA, NOBL, SSGI, STXG, CHDN). If you are in a stock with them you are in trouble take profits fast and get out , they will NSS it down to nothing faster then you can blink an eye.

And don’t trust for a second any of the so called guru’s from twitter, ihub, or various pennystock chatrooms and msg boards. Most are in for personal gain by frontloading and pumping and many are even paid promoters, paid with stock that they dump on you while alerting the hot trade.
Although there are a few that are like me Alerting only The hottest Penny stocks on twitter that will sift through all the pumps and dumps and promotions. From all the Message boards, Newsletters, Chatrooms, and Tweets. and alert you to only the best penny stocks and also tell you why they are running and what to expect next.

Our team and followers of our series on Social Media, a review of social media marketing competency among select Canadian industries, are disappointed to learn Rogers Mobile Group has spammed The Social Media Report.

Our ongoing series has garnered thousands of reviews and opinions from our growing pool of followers, everyone from general interest audiences, social media professionals to the cited top teclo tech teams, Rogers included.

The Rogers team has distinguished itself again, once more demonstrating their incomplete understanding of social media fundamentals. As well, their spamming activities disrespect the basic principles of social media as a vehicle for the free exchange of ideas and opinions.

Here’s what happened.

Rogers Mobile Group contacted us through one of our blog posts in an attempt to clarify or suggest we missed a few points. At first we assumed this was a benign overture, offering their view of how their social media marketing efforts have benefited the company or perhaps pointing out an oversight in our research. That turned out not to be the case.

Here’s the initial Rogers post to our blog, demonstrating lack of understanding social media basics.

Hi,
This is Chris from Rogers’ social media team. I came across your report and had some information to share about Rogers’ social media presence. To set the record straight, we’ve been actively engaging with our customers in social media channels for some time now. Some examples of the work we’re doing in social media:
We have an exceptionally successful blog, called RedBoard http://redboard.rogers.com/, to which we have been posting regularly since earlier this year.
We recently launched RedBoard Biz http://redboardbiz.rogers.com/ for our small and medium sized business customers.
We manage several Facebook pages, including the popular Rogers Canada page http://www.facebook.com/rogerscanada.
Our team is also very active on Twitter . We can be found @RogersHelps to learn from our customers and help where we can, @RogersBuzz sharing information about news, special offers, and updates, and at our own individual Twitter accounts – mine is @Rogers_Chris.
We also have YouTube channels http://www.youtube.com/rogerscommsinc and http://www.youtube.com/rogerscanada.
Recently, we launched our Community Forums, in English http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/community/categorypage/category-id/EnglishCommunity?profile.language=en and French http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/community/categorypage/category-id/FrenchCommunity?profile.language=fr, where we’re dealing with our customers technical issues.

If you’re interested in learning more about how Rogers is engaging online in order to learn from and better serve our customers, don’t hesitate to contact me.

I looked at some of Rogers posts on the sites they suggested, and using the exact title from their posts, searched in Google to see the results. Keywords that would be suggested by analytics are not used, Canada, Rogers Mobile, etc, etc, etc. Instead, Rogers chose stealth titles to mislead users to their content, a.k.a. spamming.

Next, there was another breach discovered. What followed was Rogers posting their above-quoted message onto some of our posts as comments. They did this as a means to generate traffic and promote their own corporate merchandise. Comments are that, I would have assumed any professional organization would have started with please contact us to discuss your opinions. No they Rogers just marched along across our social media network posting this spammo-mercial

Here’s a word of warning about spamming methods. There are ads or links on your profile pages, blogs, forums or guest books. Beware of innocent looking blog comments such as “Great post. Keep up the good work.” The commenter is only looking for the link back to his site, which most blogs (including ours) do provide.

Here is what I sent back to Rogers on behalf of the Social Media Report

Thank you for your comments of directives to other sites maintained by Rogers.
In developing the series of articles we set a criteria from which to evaluate each site and or sites.
For a month we tracked each Telco Company, followed traffic, demographics, complaints, links, sites etc. This was not the work of those without knowledge.
The point which many on our other 860 Blogs and Social Network found was the following, which we did not post about Rogers.
I will share with you.
1. Complaints about Rogers; the largest amount of traffic in postings and the net overall. If you use link: or site: or other triggers in search engines you will determine our findings accurate.
2. Content was about specials and not a lot of fresh product news. Tell me why I should consider Rogers, not the same old news as your competition. Better product news great search engine placement.
3. Basic web rules missed, your blog using WordPress Red Rogers is not verified with the three search engines. Overall structure of the blog is not highly developed for search engines.
4. Twitter and Facebook are only doorways into Social Media with a larger design your companies impact would out way your competition. Social Media as you are well aware has layers of applications not just Facebook and Twitter.
5. Site Traffic very low compared to your competition. Your customers are leaving your sites and head back to Google to search for Internet or cell service again. Mostly from Ontario and Toronto due to Population.
6. Your home site or Portal was not driving customer traffic or connecting customers with your social media sites. When we did find a link Errors using different web browsers. We tested 6 different web browsers.
7. 31 % of Virgin Mobile daily traffic is directly related to their web site placement of links to social media applications. Rogers traffic unable to measure.
8. The Forums do not self-sense the language of the visitor. No Search engine or Meta tags.

I hope this clears up the fact that this was not the work of a social Blogger.
While Social Media may be considered new in Canada, we are not new in social media.

Social Media is a marketing forum deserving and requiring respect. That the Net is full of spammers is not news to anyone. As well, Rogers’ unusual business practices are not news to anyone either.

However, it is disturbing to learn that Rogers, a leading Canadian corporation, embraces this particular kind of unwholesome business practice. While I’m not so concerned about their commenting on our posts using search engine catch phrases, I am annoyed that they use unethical social media practices to drive traffic to benefit their interests, albeit in an all-thumbs way.

I guess Rogers will incorporate this latest incident into their company’s general “let them howl” customer service and public relations policy. They’re on the right track, then. There will be howls.

From simply expanding the reach of your organization to promoting your personal expertise in a field, social technology is a vital tool, which if managed properly, can enhance your personal and your organization’s online reputation and latent potential like never before- literally with the push of a few buttons!

For corporations, online reputations are steadily becoming absolutely critical, as they will soon dictate how much you can sell, the level of employee you can recruit, and will even impact your ability to attract investors. It is absolutely crucial that you begin managing your online reputation- and you must begin now.

Your online reputation fits into one of three categories: The Good, The Bad, and The Invisible.

Good

If your online reputation is good, put a smile on your face because you are popular.
You have online relevancy because you have learned how to utilize sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and blogs to connect to as many consumers as is physically possible.
It also means you are producing a lot of information; updating those micro-blogs with regular, fast-paced, and interesting content to keep your customers engaged, cheering along, and sharing with others.
If your online reputation is good, it means that others are saying good things about you on their blogs, microblogs, and other Social Networking sites.

Bad

A bad reputation will result in people easily being able to discern that hiring you or doing business with your company is a big risk. It will be very hard to overcome this and will impact you economically.
Consumers are realizing the powerful fact that with the push of a button their stories of poor costumer service will be heard and even watched by millions across the world. These stories are both easily searchable and permanent.

Invisible

If your online reputation is invisible, it simply means this: you have no online connections, presence, or relevancy.
Having no online reputation is only a small step better than having a bad one.
These days, even home-based businesses are realizing the importance of joining the Social Networking community in order to make their brand visible.

Once you have successfully moved your brand from invisible or bad to good, the next step is managing and maintaining a positive online reputation

Guidelines for you and your organization to manage online reputation

In this social technology-run era, a good reputation is everything. Your sincerity and common sense will go far in maintaining that positive online presence

Here are some guidelines for you and your organization to manage online reputation. You must learn to – Listen, Engage, and Measure.

Listen

Develop a Listening Process. This must include multiple methods for listening to what people might be saying about you online.
For a person promoting his or her reputation or brand, listening programs should include the use of multiple tools and alerts such as alerts.com, socialmention.com alerts, Google alerts, and Yotify (promoted as Google alerts on “steroids”)
For an organization, you can consider more sophisticated tools like Radian6 and Viralheat which perform real-time monitoring and access data on all kinds of micro-blogging platforms and millions of websites, and will deliver the results directly to your desktop.

Engage

You must establish an Engagement Policy, which defines how you will respond to the positive and negative things said about you and your brand.
You must determine who will respond, when they will respond, and how they will respond. This is critical because you want to minimize negative mentions or get people to retract them because you reached out. And, you want to see positive mentions as possible connections and sales opportunities.
The most profound tool for establishing an engagement policy is to actually engage! Be present within the community of your fans and consumers by posting on their sites, interacting on microblogs and your website, and by developing an open-dialogue. This type of community building will do a lot towards keeping a positive online reputation.

Measure

You must implement a Measurement System that gauges how much people are talking about you and whether the sentiment is positive or negative.
Your Measurement System Strategy needs to tell you how many times you were mentioned a month, what the sentiment ratio was positive to negative, and your effectiveness in customer service (getting people to delete negative mentions or ratings).
For corporations, tools like Klout.com and Addictomatic.com, can be utilized to create a sort of standardized scoring systems,which will be used as another way to measure a person’s or an organizations value to the business world.

The bottom line is this: it is no longer viable for an organization or even a person to exist without a solid online presence. However, the key is balance. You and your business have a legitimate desire for privacy, which is healthy and necessary. Yet, at the same time, you must establish an online reputation if you want to get noticed.

So for a layman if his intention is to have is own web site, then the first step would be owing a host provider so as to host the website on web server. As soon as the website is online on the server, online users can browse that website through Internet. All this job of providing host facility is with the providers called web-hosting providers.

As the name suggests, in shared hosting several websites share space on the common physical web servers. A physical web server can host thousands of websites at one time depending upon the web host. With so much pressure on web servers it tends to make one think that due to over burden perhaps the performance of web server gets affected. But that thinking is totally wrong as for this reason only web servers are equipped with high-end powerful computer so as to support large number of websites to some extent without any problem. However but it is even possible at time of over burden on web servers that the response is badly effected.

In order to get rid of this problem reputed and experienced host providers constantly keep on monitoring the performance of web servers and keeps on adding new web servers when and where required. As many websites share a same physical web server the cost is generally low with start from mere – per month and they also have to accept slower server response time.

Dedicated Hosting

As against shared hosting, in dedicated hosting a specific web server is allotted to one customer only. Due to one server the customer is having option to host his single/multiple web sites, can modify the configuration of software, can handle greater site traffic and can even scale the bandwidth when it is taken as necessary. It is because of this facility that dedicated hosting charges good amount which starts from and can range even upto0 to 0 monthly. So dedicated hosting is regularly used by extremely important web sites having high traffic.

Co-location hosting

The third type of hosting is reseller hosting where the provider offers web server storage space to third party at a discounted price, who again resell it to his own customer. Resellers can set up their own hosting company and can decide for their own pricing structure with establishing their own branding.

In case of reseller hosting for reseller’s customers, the reseller is the web host provider. Thus it is more important to act wisely and to not get attracted with marketing techniques employed by resellers like professional outlook of their website and other strategies like proving technical support in their own name which is actually provided by the provider and not by them but they tend to present it in such a way that they are providing that support.
